This website is a textual and visual companion to my novel, The Freedomization Files. The imagery can be found in the photo galleries to the left, which show fragments of the broken mirror Iraq has become.
The slideshows are arranged to be viewed in order, beginning at the top with "Scenes of freedomization at work."
The photos are real and have not been altered in any way. They were taken all over Iraq between June 2003 and January 2004 by someone who wishes to remain anonymous.
The commentary, back-stories, and vignettes which accompany the photos are products of my imagination and are not to be confused with factual journalism. The names attributed to the real individuals in the photos are false and were invented for the sake of character creation.
Some characters from the The Freedomization Files play parts in the slideshows; these episodes and all others can be appreciated as new reflections from the novel, glinting off the broken glass in changing light. This fictional material, like the novel itself, draws on the first eight months of the occupation of Iraq, from Spring to Fall of 2003. I worked there as a translator and deputy NGO coordinator at that time, when freedomization blossomed in the air.

Thanks for this web site.
Your histories are the most human that I read about Irak. I hope The Freedomization Files publication comes early, I wish to read more.
